Artist Statement
As an artist I use symbolism, loud color schemes, and intricate pattern motif’s, to create chaotic compositions that are given meaning through symbols, and the encapsulation in to recognizable objects, such as masks, human anatomy, plants, etc. This “encapsulation” allows me to take the highly abstract visuals that i’ve created and bring them back down to earth by giving them human context.
Many of the symbols in my work are used repeatedly and have become iconic throughout series and compositions. They are reflective of my culture, upbringing, education, artistic influences, and aesthetic preference, and are reinforced in my work to trigger self-reflection and ideological understanding.
When all is said and done, I like to think that my finished compositions provide an original viewing experience, that is chaotic and messy, yet beautiful and thought-provoking.
